Madrid, the capital of Spain, is relatively small for a capital city - only 5 million people live there. It's also quite a recent addition to European capitals, as it became the capital only in the late sixteenth century. There may not be many of them, but the madrileños

certainly make plenty of noise! It is a vibrant place, full of life and people and bars and restaurants and clubs. I lived there for one year and had a great time and met loads of great people. The natives like eating, partying and of course football - and with a team like Real Madrid to support, who can blame them?
