The weather can be quite extreme, very hot in summer but quite cold in winter. In August the average is 32 degrees centigrade and it can get much hotter than that, but in January freezing conditions are normal.

  Rainfall is light, with only 17 inches a year, and rain to be expected on around 100 days. Snow in winter is common. The best times to visit, then, are spring and autumn when the climate is perfect - warm but not too hot. If you are there in summer, find a shady spot and while away the day with a cold beer, waiting for the night when the city comes alive.
