I was born in Birmingham in 1970 and spent my first 18 years there, with my parents and my two sisters. When I was 18 I went off to Hull to university, where I studied first Electronic Engineering, then switched to Philosophy when I realised it wasn't for me.
During my final year I was lucky enough to do an Erasmus exchange with Murcia university for three months, which convinced me that the UK was just too grey and dull for me! So, after graduating I went back to Murcia and worked at the university as a language assistant for two years.
My wanderlust still wasn't satiated, so I decided to travel further afield. I managed to land myself a job at a language school in Paraguay, so off I went. I spent four years there, meeting along the way my future wife, Sonia.
She was coming to the UK to do a Master's degree so I decided to come back with her and spent about a year in Cardiff bumming around and finally getting myself a teaching qualification.
After finishing this, and working in Eastbourne for the summer, I decided it was time to get out again, and went to Katowice in Poland for a year.
Sonia and I decided it was time to settle down, and chose Madrid as our base. We went there, popping back to Brum to get married, and lived in Spain for a year.
Things didn't work out as planned, so we decided to return to the UK and ended up back in Birmingham in 2001, where we have stayed ever since. I work at a Further Education College here and Sonia teaches Spanish at a local adult education centre.
Our son, Matthew, was born on 27 May 2004 and has been a welcome (and loud!) addition to the family.
Our daughter Laura was born on 1 January 2008 and is so far very lady-like!
