Paraguay is a small country in the centre of South America, sandwiched between Brazil, Argentina and Bolivia. The landscape is largely grassy plains and wooded hills in the

south, dry thorny scrubland in the north.  It has a population of about 5.8 million people, who speak Spanish and the native language Guaraní.

It is a fascinating place to visit, I went for a few months and ended up staying for four years! My wife is Paraguayan and so I still have a strong connection with the country and culture.

Despite a history of war and dictatorship, and continuing economic gloom, the people are friendly and open.
